Norman and Elly May: Saved from Slaughter

by Cheryl Kucsera

Norman.

Norman.

Norman is a very gentle -- and very large -- black and white Holstein. As the male calf of a dairy cow, he was being raised for "veal." His companion, Elly May, is a Black Angus cow who was being raised for "beef."

Norman and Elly May, who lived at several other sanctuaries before coming to stay permanently at Poplar Spring, are the best of friends. They tend to stay close to each other's side as they roam the peaceful pastures of Poplar Spring with the rest of the Sanctuary's cows.
