Fern

Fern

Fern is a young Yorkshire pig who was found on the side of a highway in North Carolina when she was only one week old. She was probably being taken to an auction to be sold as a "feeder pig", for someone to grow to six months and then slaughter. She either fell or jumped off whatever vehicle she was in, and had several scrapes on her side, but was otherwise healthy. Fern's special friend is another young pig named Avery who was rescued from a local high school where he had been greased and spray painted. Fern and Avery sleep together every night in their large barn, and spend their days grazing in their four acre pasture. They like to lie in the mud to keep cool in the Summer. Fern's favorite foods are melons and apples.
