Harry and Bobby are two Yorkshire pigs who were used for topical insulin research at Georgetown University. After the experiments were completed, the researchers did not want to see them killed, so they asked if they could come to Poplar Spring. The trip to the sanctuary was a new experience for the pigs who had never been outside of a metal cage in their lives. The first thing they did after arriving was to jump into a puddle and take a nice long mud bath, then they ran around exploring their yard, looking up at the sky and trees with amazement. Harry and Bobby sleep together every night snuggled up in the hay in their barn. They eat pig pellets and grass every day, but their favorite foods are watermelon and apples. Soon they will be able to join the big pig group where they will have a large four acre pasture to run and play in. |
